Imagery Rescripting

Imagery rescripting is an experiential technique used in Schema Therapy for working with traumatic, stressful or bothersome images, all of which can lead to negative beliefs about yourself and result in a range of emotional, behavioural and even physiological problems. The images might be memories from your childhood or adulthood, nightmares, or they might be future-based imagined events.

Imagery rescripting is an experiential technique – this means that it involves working directly with emotionally-laden images as opposed to simply ‘talking about’ such images or experiences.  The aim of Imagery Rescripting is to provide you with an emotionally corrective experience in the psychotherapy room.

There is strong evidence that imagery rescripting is an effective treatment for a wide variety of conditions including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), nightmares, depression, social anxiety, eating disorders, and personality disorders.
