What will happen in session 1 and further sessions?
In session one, Angela will conduct a psychological assessment in order to better understand your current psychological difficulties. This psychological assessment or formulation, will determine the correct psychotherapeutic approach or modality (this gets updated session by session as your needs shift). From session 2, you will both engage in a psychotherapeutic conversation where Angela will weave through a range of evidence-based psychotherapeutic strategies to help manage your psychological health and life in general (including your current relationships, work and other life domains). Angela will work with you on strategies that can manage cognitions (thoughs, images), emotions, belief systems, bodily sensations, energy and behavioural patterns. If needed, Angela will provide evidence-based trauma strategies, such as EMDR, to help you to heal from past adverse events. What do sessions cost?
A 50-minute consultation is $295 (GST free), which is payable at the beginning of each psychotherapy session. For some clients, medicare rebates are available: How does the Medicare rebate work?
If you have a referral from your GP (and a Mental Health Treatment Plan completed by the GP) or a referral from your psychiatrist, you are eligible for the Medicare rebate of $137.55 for up to 10 sessions in a calendar year (you will need to get your plan reviewed after session 6, and after every 6 sessions thereafter, for as long as you still meet the eligibility criteria). If I can’t attend in person or am feeling sick or my child is sick, can I still go ahead with my appointment, can by switching to telehealth?
Yes! Session continuity is essential. If at any stage you wish to switch to telehealth, please feel free to do this, even at the very last minute. Simply text the practice before your appointment. Telehelath is offered via zoom, telephone or FaceTime. These appointments are charged according to usual billing practices and are also payable on the day of treatment.
